Day of the Ride
The One Day, One Ride, One Cause event is a charity bike ride within the District of Columbia that benefits a coalition of eight non-profit HIV/ AIDS-related organizations. This one-day ride is scheduled for August 17, 2008 and will traverse all eight Wards of the District of Columbia beginning and ending at Anacostia Park, SE.
General Information
- Hours -- 6 am to 5 pm (includes registration to closing ceremonies)
- Bring a helmet
- Bring a two inner tubes
- This is a fully-supported event and includes water, powerade, snacks and fruit at the start/finish line and at each pit.
- A map of the route is available.
- Cue sheets, or detailed written directions of the ride, will be distributed at registration.
- Riders and volunteers will be required to sign a separate event waiver.
- Bring Sunglasses
- Use Sunscreen
- Bring Anti-chaffing ointment (Butt Balm, Udder Butter, etc)
- Bring a credit card or cash
- Bring a form of identification (driver's license)
- Bring medical insurance information
- Bring a cellphone
- Bring a chair or two if you like to sit on when you return to the closing cerremony
- Make sure your bike is in in good shape, have a bike store look at it for any problems
- Come early, we begin rolling out at 7:30 am
- Bring plenty of 'Can-Do Attitude'
Directions
Metrorail:
Metro opens at 7 am on Sunday.
Take the Blue/Orange Line to Potomac Avenue. (Preferred - shorter walk along Pennsylvania Avenue, SE in a southernly direction, across the Sousa bridge on the path into the park)
Take Green Line to Anacostia. (longer walk in a northernly direction along Firth Sterling Avenue, SE)
Driving: From the north - - the entrance into Anacostia Park is off 295, Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, then right on Prout street, SE, right on Nicholson Street, SE, into the park. Make a left to tennis courts.
From Southeast - - Minnesota Avenue, to Good Hope Road, cross tracks, into anacostia park, right at stop sign to tennis courts. Ample parking at the start/finish line at the tennis courts.

Itinerary
- Registration is from 6 am to 7:45 am
- Start (Anacostia Park) is at approximately 7:30 am
- Pit 1 (Hains Point) is open from 8:00 am to 9:00 am (this is not a 'full pit' but will have access to a bathroom and snacks)
- Pit 2 (American University, Tenley Campus) is open from 10:00 am to 11:30 am
- Pit 3 (Fort Circle Parks) is open from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm
- Pit 4 (RFK) is open from Noon to 1:30 pm (This will be the 'pooling' pit where riders will gather to ride together along the remainder of the route. Those that have not made it to this pit before 1:30 will be 'swept' to this location to finish the ride)
- Finish (Anacostia Park) is at approximately 2:30 pm
- Lunch (Anacostia Park) will be provided courtesy of Shoppers Food Warehouse @ College Park from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm
- Information (Anacostia Park) about HIV/AIDS will be available from the ride beneficiaries and the Department of Health's HIV/AIDS Administration from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm
- Remarks (Anacostia Park) will be made by the beneficiary organization, public officials, and ride the organizer from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm
- End of event (Anacostia Park) will be at 4:00 pm
